Surprise Roman find in Germany

Archaeological students in Germany on an experimental dig found far more than they bargained for when they chanced upon the foundations of a Roman temple recently. Read more about it here. Incredible how these things keep being found. Long may that continue!

Been busy recently, tidying up the last edits of Spartacus: Rebellion. It’s released on the 16th of August, which is in 100 days. Exciting! Had a good night out 10 days ago or so at the fab launch for Anthony Riches and Giles Kristian’s new books, The Leopard Sword and The Bleeding Land respectively. If you haven’t got a copy of either book, get out there and buy them – they’re great reads!

Lots of great readers were there, including Nick Britten, Kate (@Wetdarkandwild from Twitter), Robin Carter and lots of others, as well as lots of authors. I even met Conn Iggulden! Some photos here. Best of all, my head was OK the next morning. Maybe I’m learning to pace myself. Managed to start writing the second Hannibal book (Legionary), but haven’t got up any speed yet. These things always take time, however.

    Hi Ben
Conn and Tony are just lightweights, You should have come on the Batter with me at History in the Court, and I would have shown you a real sore head.
Any plans to visit the East coast of Scotland soon?
I am reading the Leopard Sword at the moment, I keep avoiding Giles, The Bleeding Land, as I was never a huge fan of the Civil War years, Maybe that it always seems to consentrate with the English part, Cromwells troops took a huge toll in Scotland, with Monc’s Sack of Dundee,
Anyway looking forward to the next instalment of Spartacus, and Hannibal (when you get round to starting it) Try writing ambedextriously.
    Take care
    Ray.

@plato: Not sure I want to test that invitation, but thanks for it! My drinking abilities have sharply decreased of recent years. Getting older and having small children are two of the reasons why. I still like a good session now and again, however!

No plans to visit Scotland sadly – I live in hope and expectation of a nationwide tour when one of my books comes out, but it has yet to happen.

Re the Civil War – I know what you mean – Cromwell is not someone I, or the Irish, think of fondly at all. However, Giles’ book, and Michael Arnold’s books, are really good.

Only 91 days to go until Spartacus: Rebellion comes out! Have started Hannibal 2: Legionary, but it’s not out until June 2013.

    Cheers!

@Basil: Thanks a lot – good to hear from you! I hope you and yours are well? Thomas has probably told you that he won a copy of Spartacus: Rebellion in the competition that I ran recently. I hope you all enjoy it. Best wishes.
